통근생활 Commuting Lives (2018-) are a project related with Commuting time and distance in city.

I started this Commuting project with question about my life and my commuting pattern. I am 34 years old women and lived in worked near Seoul Metropolitan Area, Korea. After I was born in Seoul, I lived in a suburban new town, an area for centralized population living in Seoul, and now I live in a farther suburb of Seoul, in line with my parents' retirement. Nevertheless, a lot of schools, workplaces, infrastructure, and amenities are still located in the center of the city, and as a result I am currently spending over four hours a day in commuting by bus, subway, foot or car about 4 times a week.  For this reason, I began to wonder why I had to spend so much time commuting of the city and why we spend a lot of time in commuting in many cities.

I am interested in the compression/expansion of the city and the individual commuting life. I keep track of the individual’s commuting life in increasingly gravity-driven cities like a planet. In the project, I have focused on the environment of the cities and the lives of individuals who commute daily.  I conducted in research and made artworks based on Seoul, South Korea, the border of Malaysia and Singapore, and Tokyo, Japan.

통근생활 Commuting Lives (2018-) 은 도시에서의 이동거리와 이동시간, 통근에 관한 프로젝트이다.  

통근과 도시에서의 이동의 관심을 가지게 된 것은 나의 거주지의 이동에서부터 시작하였다. 나는 서울, 구의동에서 태어난 30대의 여성으로, 초등학교 때 경기도 일산신도시에서 20년 정도를 살다가 그 후 대학원을 졸업한 후 부모님의 은퇴의 시기와 맞물려 화성으로 이사를 가게 되었다. 주거지가 외곽으로 이동하는 현상에도 불구하고 나의 학교나 직장들은 서울 안에 있었으며, 현재 서울로 일주일에 4회 이상, 하루의 4시간 이상을 버스, 지하철, 도보 혹은 차를 통하여 이동하는 데에 사용하고 있는 것을 발견 했다.  

도시는 사회적 경제적 활동, 문명의 중심이 되는 장소로, 기술이 발전하면서 점점 더 확장되어왔다.  정부주도의 도시계획은 부도심을 만들거나, 몰려드는 인구를 분산시키기 위하여 신도시 개발을 하며 주거지를 옮기는 시도를 하였다. 그러나 몇몇 도시를 살펴보면 중심에서의 인프라, 학교, 직장은 여전히 중심에 위치하고 있어 직장과 주거지의 거리를 늘어나게 하는 결과를 만들었다. 또한, 서울이라는 도시를 살펴보면, 도시의 주택 부동산 가격의 상승으로 경제적으로 이를 감당할 수 없는 사람들은 도시의 외곽으로 벗어나는 현상을 보이고 있다.

통근생활 Commuting Lives (2018-) 은 현재 도시의 확장과 우리가 매일 겪는 도시에서의 개인이 이동하는 통근 거리와 시간에 대한 작품이다. 이동하면서 보내는 도시의 개인의 삶에 대하여 기록하고 있다.  현재 서울, 말레이시아, 싱가포르, 도쿄에서  각각의 도시들이 보이는 환경과 그 속에서 매일을 살아가는 개인의 통근하는 삶을 조사 리서치하며 작품을 제작하고 있다.
